Balneoklinika St. George ***
Ciechocinek, Poland
JUNE – JULY – AUGUST 2021
Ciechocinek is situated on the left bank of the Vistula river, between the cities of Toruń and Włocławek, ca. 40 m above sea level, in a picturesque proglacial valley of the largest Polish river (the said Vistula). Ciechocinek is one of the largest and the most famous health resorts in Poland. The oldest records the brine springs date back to 13th century. “The garden town” of Ciechocinek is characterized by lowland climate which is very beneficial in terms of therapeutic and recreational functions. The climate is mild for the human organism, with a relatively high yearly average temperature, a large number of sunny days, a low level of precipitation, not very strong winds and low air humidity. The natural resources include abundant deposits of thermal brines which have extraordinary therapeutic properties due to the contents of sodium chloride, compounds of calcium, magnesium and iron, free hydrogen sulphide, iodine, bromine and other microelements
Balneoklinika St. George was established based on the existing St George Hotel Polih Health Clinics and Spa. Balneoklinika St. George draws upon many years of experience of the NZOZ Uzdrowiskowy Szpital Kliniczny in Ciechocinek established and headed for 40 years by Professor Irena Ponikowska. Our mission is to provide the ultimate in health resort treatment in Poland. Balneoklinika St. George is headed by Professor Irena Ponikowska, former state consultant in balneology and physical medicine (1993-2017) and head of former Uzdrowiskowy Szpital Kliniczny in Ciechocinek and the Department of Balneology and Physical Medicine at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz.
Microangiopathy is a chronic diabetic complication affecting small blood vessels in the human body. Diabetic microangiopathy affects the eyes, the kidneys, and the peripheral nerves, leading to polyneuropathy. Monitored inadequately, diabetes vastly increases the risk of vascular complications. Frequent hyperglycaemic episodes foster angiopathy. Macroangiopathy is a chronic diabetic complication affecting medium and large blood vessels in the human body, resulting from poorly treated diabetes or long-term effects of the disease. Other factors increasing the risk of complications include, among others, arterial hypertension, lipid metabolism disorders, smoking or developed microangiopathy. Our comprehensive treatment program includes all the element required in the clinical treatment of diabetes supplemented with selected methods of classic balneotherapy and physical therapy and own special methods aimed at improving the blood flow in the lower limbs.
